Santa Rosa · Fire safety & fuel reduction
Santa Rosa Firewise Landscape
Defensible space, fuel reduction, and fire-wise replanting
The Challenge
Working with the property
Bordering open hills, the property carried heavy fuel loads of overgrown brush and crowded trees right up to the structures—a serious wildfire risk in a high-hazard area.
The Solution
A landscape with a long view
We created tiered defensible space, thinned and limbed trees, cleared ladder fuels, and reestablished the landscape with fire-resistant, well-spaced plantings. Ecological forestry kept the surrounding woodland healthy while dramatically reducing risk near the home.
Planting highlights
- • Fire-resistant low-fuel groundcovers
- • Well-spaced native shrubs
- • Irrigated green buffer zones
- • Limbed-up retained oaks
Materials & systems
- • Gravel firebreak zones
- • Chipped & redistributed mulch
- • Cleared ladder fuels
- • Maintained access trails
“We finally feel safe during fire season. The crew reduced the fuel around our home and it still looks like a cared-for landscape, not a clear-cut.”
