Sebastopol Native & Pollinator Garden
Full design, soil building, native planting, and drip irrigation
The Challenge
Working with the property
The property was dominated by a thirsty, failing lawn and compacted soil that shed water rather than absorbing it. The owners wanted a beautiful, low-water landscape that would support pollinators and feel alive through every season.
The Solution
A landscape with a long view
We removed the lawn, rebuilt soil biology with compost and mulch, and designed a layered native and Mediterranean planting palette around a central arbor. Plant communities were arranged for continuous bloom and habitat value, while a high-efficiency drip system replaced overhead spray.
Planting highlights
- • Ceanothus & manzanita
- • Salvias and California fuchsia
- • Native bunchgrasses
- • Yarrow & coyote mint
Materials & systems
- • Cedar arbor
- • Decomposed granite paths
- • Locally-sourced compost & mulch
- • Inline drip irrigation
“Our yard went from a water-hungry lawn to a living garden full of bees and birds. It looks beautiful in every season and uses a fraction of the water.”
